After more than 22 years of elected public office and community engagement, I am confident that I have the knowledge, experience and leadership skills we need to grow Burlington into the city we all want it to be.  I know how to get things done, and for over two decades I’ve proven I can do just that.

Currently, I am member of the Burlington Lions Club, Burlington Chamber Commerce, advisor to the Board for St John Ambulance Burlington Branch, active volunteer at Burlington Legion Branch 60 and until recently member of the Burlington Art Gallery Foundation Board.

  • Elected 3 terms as Member of Parliament for the Riding of Burlington
  • Ability to build trusted advisor and partner relationships with constituents and community organizations
  • Collaborated with team members to contribute to the development and implementation of government policy and programs
  • Lead the development and delivery of Justice Legislation as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights for the Government of Canada including the Victim’s Bill of Rights
  • Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee on Government Operations leading to significant changes to the Estimate process
  • House of Commons Chairperson of the Canada-Japan Parliamentary Association
  • Head of Delegation for the Government of Canada to the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum
  • Member of the Standing Committee on Finance for 5 years contributing to the development federal budget
  • Chairman of the Conservative GTA Caucus, Conservative Marine Caucus, All–Party Steel Caucus
  • Member of the Conservative Financial Services Caucus, Conservative Auto Caucus
  • Developed custom communications tools using a number of delivery platforms from public engagement, social media and direct mail
  • Worked directly with a variety of volunteer-based organizations to enable them to meet their strategic, operational and financing requirements
  • Directly managed a staff in two offices delivering direct services to constituents and support services for the legislative role of a Member of Parliament
  • Assisted local groups with funding requests from the federal government bringing over $250 million to the City of Burlington and the Region of Halton
  • Held over 170 meetings with individuals and community groups each year
  • Attended over 160 community events a year
  • Managed an office and travel budget of $500,000


NOV. 1994 – JAN. 2006

  • Elected 5 terms as member of both the City of Burlington and Region of Halton Council
  • Worked directly with constituents to resolve their individual and local community issues
  • Lead a number of community projects including the development of Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Paletta Mansion and Park and the Downtown Multi-Use Parking facility
  • Lead the saving of parkland at two school properties where the schools had closed
  • Active Board of Director for a number of community organizations
  • Chaired the Standing Committees on Development and Finance at the City of Burlington
  • Chaired the Public Works Committee at the Region of Halton Council Lead role in the development of four strategic plans for the City of Burlington and Region of Halton
  • Developed communication tools such as newsletters, town hall engagement and local cable outreach not previously utilized by elected officials at the municipal level
